Relax in five fishing villages -
perched over the Mediterranean

great%20ppic%20mary%20ann%20wine%20toast-400.jpg

We begin with three days in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Florence - where the Renaissance was born. Walk in the footsteps of Michelangelo and Leonardo Di Vinci.  Dine in wonderful restaurants, visit great museums and shop as you like. We can get reservations for you at the Uffizi and Accademia Museums to avoid the long lines.

Next are three relaxing days along the Mediterranean coast on the  south end of the Italian Riviera in a land called "Cinque Terre".   If you love seafood this is your kind of place.  You can watch the fishermen as they bring in your dinner. Our hotel (and your room) overlooks the beach and harbor. A linear trail connects the towns and provides spectacular views.

Then on to the Tuscan countryside and Castellina in Chianti. We stay in a palatial yet comfy hotel in a charming wine village.  There is a welcoming feeling at this hotel that you cannot escape - nor would you choose to. It is one of our very favorite hotels in Italy and it is usually the place our customers decide is their favorite as well. You'll make yourself at home there and we'll have a hard time pulling you away. There is no charge to use the spa. Be sure to bring your bathing suit.  (I'm reminding you because our past customers said we should make sure no one forgets to bring one.) There is a picture of the hot tub area on this page.  Even if you don't get in the water there  is a quiet lounge area at one end that is perfect for reading and relaxing

From this fabulous hotel we take day trips to Siena with its famous "il campo" and its great art museums and shops.  In  Pisa you'll, of course, see the leaning tower and the beautiful cathedral that Larry and I think is one of the most beautiful. We'll also visit San Gimignano which is the most visited of all the Tuscan villages. Shoppers and history lovers both are drawn to beautiful San Gimignano. On the way there we stop for a visit to tiny Monteriggioni, a picture post card of perfection. Finally as we leave Castellina we'll stop at a charming winery tucked into ancient village building  in the hills of Tuscany.

Our last three days are spent in a gorgeous restored farmhouse high on a hill east of Florence.  Dinners at the farm, a wine tasting and tour of the olive press and windmill are all included. If you'd like you can take a cooking class and/or go for a horseback ride across the vineyard (extra cost). This farm is incredibly beautiful and  it is so well placed on that hillside that you'll swoon when you see the views no matter which way you look.  This is a great place to rest but we also have scheduled  winery tours and  oil tastings for you as well.  If farm life isn't your cup of tea, you can take a  train into Florence for just a couple euros and in about half an hour of your time.  The last group who spent days at the farm just loved it and advised us to be sure and include it on future tours.  We think you'll feel the same way. And us... we're just glad we get to go back!

We've included taxi fare to the airport in Florence or to the Florence train station at the end of our tour.   This tour is meant to give you a sense of what Italy is really like.  We're pretty sure you'll be missing Italy as soon as you head home - probably about the time the taxi pulls out of the farms driveway!

in Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre represents one of the best preserved natural and semi-natural areas of the Mediterranean. History and geography  have forbidden excessive housing development and the creation of a major roadway.  A crystal clear sea,  architecturally interesting
locations and a varied and extensive network of paths make it one of the most sought after

The weather is usually pleasant from April through the end of October.  Join us as we return to one of our favorite places in Italy.  You won't be sorry...

Daily Schedule

         Expect the following on every
Larry & Jill Tour...
  • Small group travel that allows the luxury and convenience of traveling in eight passenger vehicles that can drive windy narrow roads into the center of  tiny hill top villages.
  • You  will always have a private bathroom and stay in charming centrally located hotels.
  • Personal attention - Whether your day is  filled with an outing to the Vatican, visiting art museums or churches or you choose to simply sit on the Spanish Steps and wonder at the nonstop vibrancy of Rome -you choose. We help you achieve your  goals
  • A small group assures you won't get "lost in a crowd". You will be treated on an individual basis.
  • We travel at a relaxed pace so you can take in the landscape, dally over a leisurely meal or "shop until you drop". We stay at each destination longer and we spend as little travel time as possible.
  • The hotels we choose are in historic and central locations - close to everything.  Our small vehicles get you "close-in". We avoid the inconvenience and wasted time involved in unnecessary "bus time" that can't be avoided when hotels are located far from the  historic centers and, of course, the places that you want to spend your free time.
  • The people who own and staff the hotels we've chosen have become our friends. For us returning to each hotel is a little bit like returning home. This warm feeling carries over to you. We hope you'll feel that our friends in Italy are your friends. They want to make your visit to Italy  a happy experience that you'll always remember.
  • Since we are a small group, you can really enjoy special meals! We enjoy small, charming restaurants and a freedom of choice that is not possible in large groups.
  • In the evenings before dinner we love to get together with everyone in informal gatherings at the hotels.
  • We hope you will feel like you are with a group of friends long before we reach the end of the tour! Being away from home with a group of like minded intelligent people tends to help friendships flourish.
  • Take part in special meals and wine tastings. We make dinner reservations for our group every night but you are always free to make your own choices as to when and where you have dinner. You may want to go off on your own for a night on the town once, twice or every night. It's up to you! We usually reserve two tables of  eight so its easy to carry on conversations.
  • We'll always answer your questions promptly. You may choose to communicate with the others who'll be on your tour We enjoy exchanging pictures over the Internet before we meet  so we can spot each other as we arrive at the hotel.
  • On the first day you'll receive an Information Packet with interesting and informative details about the places we'll visit and  maps for every town. As your departure date gets closer  you'll receive additional information from us by email.
  • Luggage handling where available. All luggage handling & tips are included in the cost of your tour. You must be able to move your own luggage a short distance but never up long staircases.
  • We are making plans right now to ensure our next tours the best ones ever. We go on every tour. We look forward to doing things differently each time - making little changes to fine tune every  tour.
  • Since we are the owners of  Larry & Jill Tours we can be flexible and  act quickly to  make sure that each tour fits the group and meet unexpected challenges smoothly.
  • Our goal is to have fun as we  provide a tour that exceeds your expectations

ARE OF THE AGRITURISMO -

Fattoria Lavacchio is a fabulous estate formerly owned by the noble Florentine family Strozzi and now owned and operated by the Lottero family. There are about 250 acres devoted to grapes, olives and wheat production, along with guest accommodations, stables  and a great restaurant, Mulino a Vento (the Windmill).  The estate is also home of the Innocenti family ceramics studio, one of Italy’s most important ceramicists, and it includes Italy’s  only working windmill from which is produced flour for the estate’s bread and pasta.

Fattoria Lavacchio is an organic farm that produces 7 wine varieties and exquisite extra virgin olive oil pressed at the estate.

The estate is set in the magnificent surroundings of Montefiesole, about 16 kilometers from Florence.  The extraordinary panoramic views from 400 meters above sea level, across the Chianti countryside, are stupendous.  Activities on the farm include equestrian, mounting biking, cooking demonstrations, programs devoted to wine and olive oil production, Italian language study, ceramics workshops, swimming, among others
